Last week our doc told Mom and Dad that she was going to be out of town right around my due date - she had a conference to attend in San Francisco. She offered to induce us a few days early if we were interested. Mom and Dad thought long and hard about it, but decided that they wanted to wait to see if I would just come on my own. It was going to be a crazy week anyways, with Dad finishing up his semester and all. And plus, the longer Mom stayed at work, the more money she'd earn for us!
This week, Mom and I went to the doctor on Thursday for our weekly check up. Everything looked great, except mom was measuring small on the outside again. Since we were approaching the due date and not making much progress, the doctor ordered another sonogram to check fluid levels. We also tentatively scheduled an induction for sometime late next week.
Well, on Friday morning, we went in for our sono and found that Mommy's fluid levels were pretty low. Although the doctor would be out of town already, she felt that it was important for my health that Mommy be induced over the weekend. We were told to head into the hospital at 7:30 that very night to get the process started. This was pretty exciting, as both sets of grandparents already had plans to visit this weekend, because Daddy was supposed to be graduating this weekend! (Sorry to interrupt your graduation weekend, Dad!) Unfortunately, every pregnant woman in Lawrence must have decided to go into labor on Friday, so the Labor and Delivery floor was a little hectic. First we were postponed until 9 p.m., and then we were called again to just wait to come in until this morning. Mom was a little bummed, because she was mentally ready last night, but I didn't mind hanging out in Mama's tummy just a little longer. I'm getting a bit squished in here, but I'm pretty content, as indicated by my heartrate, movements, etc.
So, here we are. It's about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 15. We've checked into the hospital, and Mom was just given an antibiotic and a pill to get her "ready." Depending on how we react, we could start induction in just a few hours. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Dad's making a calling list as we speak, so he'll keep you posted! Wish us luck!
Love,
L.B.
